And the LORD said to him, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.” And he said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me. Judges 6:16-17 (ESV)
(1) OVERVIEW
(1-1) Building confidence with God, despite the past
This lesson is for transforming your mind so that you walk with more confidence in life, despite whatever might have happened in the past. Because of how Jesus connects believers to God, we can activate God's help and overcome the mistakes of life. With the instructions below, you can implement a meditation plan that can enable you to believe you win in life, with God on your side. When used with other right thinking and acting, this meditation can empower you to treat mistakes and related opposition as stepping stones, versus as problems (e.g., Psalm 23:5).
When we walk with God’s constant help, we not only win greatly in life, but also have our mistakes work out for our good. This stems from getting access to God's power, by being first with Him, and walking things out in obedience (e.g., Romans 8:28-30; John 14:15). The Bible is full of stories that showcase this, including the one of Gideon who won big after he first got himself straight and then believed right about God's help. He was a weakling hiding in a winepress, but ended up saving the nation of Israel from the enemies that were oppressing them (Judges 6-7). (See more in Section 2 below.)
